Zamara Foundation (ZamaraFdn) is a feminist homegrown organization founded in 2016 and registered in Kenya in 2019. Zamara is anchored on radical, bold perspectives on bodily autonomy and integrity, intersectional feminist transformational leadership and a strong voice that speaks to the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young
women, girls and those that are differently challenged. Zamara Foundation focus counties are Nairobi, Kwale and Kilifi. Zamara Foundation’s core values are deeply rooted in African feminist principles.

This position provides the candidate with a great opportunity to work with adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Kenya and ZamaraFdn areas of focus. The person will equip AGYW with intersectional feminist leadership skills, creating safe and brave spaces that will facilitate AGYW to lead innovative social change, share informative resources and information to build the leadership capacities of AGYW and influence advocacy and policy-making processes that are geared towards the promotion of sexual health and reproductive justice of AGYW and ending child marriage.

The position will the based in Nairobi and will involve occasional travels within the two counties where the ZamaraFdn works; Kwale and Kilifi. We encourage applicants from Kwale and Kilifi counties.

Responsibilities
The program officer will work closely with the Executive Director and program assistant in the managing of ZamaraFdn current programs. The responsibilities are:

  1. Taking lead in the implementation, management and overseeing current Zamara Foundation’s programs.
  2. Conduct training sessions on Zamara Foundation Intersectional Feminist Transformational Leadership Institute (ZaFLI) for young women and adolescent’s girls.
  3. Follow up and support the innovative social change programs that have been initiated by the Zamara Foundation Intersectional Feminist Transformational Leadership Institute’s participation.
  4. Building the capacity of young women to effectively participate in county gender agendas and influence policies that affect young women and adolescent girls.
  5. Identifying and engaging with the County government structures and leaders with a view to strengthening their engagement in the enactment of policies that support the sexual and reproductive health needs and rights of young women and girls.
  6. Facilitate safe and brave spaces for AGYW in Kwale and Kilifi counties
  7. Ensuring accurate implementation of project work plans in line with project management tools.
  8. Developing project budgets and adhering to rules and policies in all financial expenditures.
  9. Developing projects and donor reports for the current ZamaraFdn programs.
  10. Monitoring project implementation and evaluation of outcomes and achievement of ZamaraFdn’s projects.
  11. Demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills in the accurate and timely reporting of all program activities and expenditures.
  12. Represent Zamara Foundation in meetings and forums with partners, donors and other stakeholders as directed by your supervisor.
  13. Be involved in fundraising as and when necessary
  14. Contribute blogs and articles for ZamaraFdn’s website and blog site.
  15. Work closely with the program assistant and volunteers to redesign the website and communication aspects of the organization.
  16. Perform any other duty as assigned

The right candidate must demonstrate;

  • Ability to work independently, virtually, prioritize and meet goals in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong commitment to ZamaraFdn’s values and feminist principles in promoting young women’s issues and sexual health and reproductive justice, ending child marriages and challenging anti-gender movements.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours, including occasional weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to curate both online and offline campaigns geared towards the promotion of gender equality.

3. Required Qualifications and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender studies or Community Development and Social Sciences.
  • Proposal development and report writing skills.
  • Good presentation and public speaking, relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in the field, under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Computer Literacy (including MS Excel skills).
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Strong communication, leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituents of young women.
  • A person who demonstrates feminist’s principles and is pro-choice.
